糖心Vlog 鈥 Department of Communication (FEU Depcom) formally launched MILA (Media and Information Literacy Advocacy) at the Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week celebration last October 24-31 in partnership with MIL Advocates and stakeholders 鈥 Out of the Box Media Literacy Initiative (OOTB), VERA Files, Break the Fake Movement, and the National Council for Children鈥檚 Television (NCCT), an attached agency of the Department of Education focused on promoting child-friendly media.

Herwin Cabasal, chair of Depcom, said FEU MILA is an institutionalized program that will supply learning resources and programs to improve MIL competencies using critical and development communication lenses. Rowena C. Reyes, PhD, Dean of Institute of Arts and Sciences (IAS) welcomed co- advocates of MIL and declared FEU as 鈥渁 home for MIL鈥 through its Department of Communication.

The half-day face-to-face forum was attended by about 300 students, educators, and media professionals celebrated the weeklong commemoration with theme, 鈥淣urturing Trust: A Media and Information Literacy Imperative. It featured educators and professionals who discussed 鈥渒ey issues in the field highlighting the theme of eroding trust in society caused in part by rising disinformation, hate speech, and various attacks on digital rights鈥 (Out of the Box Media Literacy Initiative, 2022).

GlobalMILWeekPH allowed all partner participants to share their MIL initiatives. The Global MIL Week was first celebrated in 2011 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
